Every product we make is designed to withstand the test of time; this is especially true regarding the re-designed Passport Holder. This product is all about quality and longevity, whether taking a family holiday or flying around the world for work. To test the durability of the new Passport Holder, the product flew around the world with Charlie for work.
Flying 25,000 miles and totally 45 hours in the air (economy class) the Longside Passport Holder travelled through four countries (United States of America, Hong Kong, Singapore, and China) stopping at eleven airports. This included eleven customs checks, with the passport being taken from the holder each time.
The Passport Holder was also carried in his back pocket on three different metro systems whilst travelling around the cities to attend meetings (London, Hong Kong, and Shanghai) and was even present when Charlie realised he hadn’t packed his toothbrush.
Here are some after shots, where the results truly exceeded our expectations....
Last week Longside HQ took a trip to the Oxford Botanic Garden. Although the weather was not on our side, the garden contains a few glasshouses packed full of greenery and life to escape to and provide perfect shelter from the rain. OBG is also the home to beautiful and exceptional flowers in the main grounds accompanied by water sculptures and fountains, perfect for those seeking inspiration for their own gardens. A 15 minute walk away from the city centre, the garden is a must-see if you’re visiting Oxford soon, or like us who reside here a great local getaway – a chance to step out of the workshop and step back into nature.
If you want to keep up with us in the workshop be sure to check out our Instagram.
If you have been following Longside’s progress for a while now (especially our Instagram) you would have noticed that our website has experienced some major changes. In brief, the website design is now simple, yet functional - much like our products. We’ve streamlined the menu for ease of use and added information about our stockists around Europe.
Following on from the re-design of our website, we are pleased to announce that all our products will now come in a two-part, hand-stamped box – your product will be encased in tissue paper and accompanied by an information card highlighting the details of how and when your item was made. We believe that our packaging should reflect the quality of our products, that’s why it is important for us to not only present your order aesthetically, but also to ensure your order is protected in transit. We like to think the little touches make a big difference.

Here at Longside we are fortunate to be located within a picturesque city, a city that easily provides inspiration. Oxford is simply a beautiful place to absorb history as you walk through the streets and behold the impressive architecture. Renowned globally for the esteemed University – centuries of rich history is complimented by a feeling of unity as students, residents, and visitors from all walks of life come here to stroll the same cobbled lanes.
We often wander through our hometown to embrace the energy emitted by Oxfords’ diverse audience and seek brilliance for new products and ideas, which uphold the same standard of this great city. Every single product in our workshop is handmade with a real passion for craft and quality – the same passion researchers, scholars and many more have for their profession in Oxford.
Our products have walked down the illustrious Broad Street, where fifty years ago other local products of craft were bought. We hope in fifty years time Longside is st...
We are constantly looking to develop and expand our range of goods. While brainstorming products and writing down ideas we realised that our notebooks travelled everywhere with us. This started the ball rolling, we wanted a simple way of keeping our notebooks safe as they contained months of ideas.
We decided to keep it simple, something that would fit in the back pocket of our jeans and could mould to a natural shape. To achieve this we decided not to add a clasp, stud or snap. This allowed it to feel comfortable in the back pocket and avoid any tears or rips in your denim.
We created several prototypes and decided that a simple two pocketed design worked best - the reason being it allows you to slip the front and back covers into the pockets and use the full note book with ease. We'd advise you use a Field Notes as they fit perfectly, however any notebook of the same size should fit also (A5).
We're really pleased with the outcome and we'll be releasing the Noteboo...
We are pleased to announce that we will now be running a deicated Longside blog right here on the site.
We aim to update this blog with news from Longside - whether this is product releases, sales, competitions or stockists announcements, this will be the place to find out exactly what we're up to.
We will also be posting behind the scenes posts from the production process - this will included workshop shots, videos and product development. We hope to show exactly how much work goes into everyone of our products.
Our final aim is to post a range of things that inspire us and our creative process. We aim to share products, media and design that we enjoy and take inspiration from. We hope that by sharing our inspiration with you it'll allow you to understand our products, ethos and overall our brand.
